MLUI Releases 2010 Local Food and Farm Guide

‘Taste the Local Difference’ booklet connects shoppers, local growers

Traverse City Northwest Lower Michigan residents and visitors looking for places to buy locally grown fruits, veggies, meats, and more can find them now in the hot-off-the-press 2010 Taste the Local Difference food and farm guide. The guide lists local farms, wineries, and farmers markets, as well as retail businesses and specialty food producers from Manistee County to the Mackinac Bridge that offer fresh, locally grown food.


With the publication of this year’s annual guide, MLUI’s Taste the Local Difference project marks its seventh year. Both the guide and the campaign behind it continue to expand efforts to rebuild the region’s local food economy.


The 2010 guide lists over 250 farms, 36 wineries and beverage producers, 30 farmers markets, and 70 retail businesses and food artisans featuring local farm products on their shelves and in everything from jams and breads to salsas and chocolates.


Taste the Local Difference is available online at localdifference.org, and in a handy, compact printed version available at local visitor centers, chambers of commerce, restaurants, stores, libraries, farmers markets, and at the Michigan Land Use Institute office at 148 E. Front Street, Suite 301, above Talbot’s, in downtown Traverse City.
