The 28-person staff at Traverse Magazine (MyNorth Media, MyNorth.com, My North Tickets, Northern Home & Cottage) filled Traverse City’s new small event venue, The Box, with fun, holiday cheer and fabulous fondue. Enjoy these snapshots of the evening:
Wine glasses stand ready on the fabulously wide black granite counter in the kitchen equipped for parties and cooking classes at The Box. MyNorth Media website guru Michael Thompson enjoys a beer while he contemplates the Mexican fondue he just whipped up. In the background, Steve Baker and Lissa Edwards make traditional French fondue.
Veggie art decorates the walls in the industrial hip kitchen at The Box. Built in 1920, the building originally housed a cigar box factory. Later it was a fitness center. As a casual but sophisticated small event venue, The Box promises to add a welcome buzz to Traverse City’s Eighth Street.
Matt and Victoria Sutherland decked The Box out for the holidays with three Christmas trees that swept the 15-foot high ceilings.
Traverse Magazine editor Jeff Smith cuts the baguette for the Editorial Department’s traditional cheese fondue.
Gathered around the marble topped counter with its salvaged lumber base at The Box, clockwise: Office manager (and the voice of Traverse Magazine) Monterey Wheeler, web administrator Meredith Buskist, circulation director Jodi Simpson, marketing and editorial assitant Jenny Buechel and web designer Roger Lamb.

Good conversation, great food, enchanting vibe at The Box as the evening unfolded. Lori Savage who heads up the company’s new MyNorth Tickets chats with Lissa Edwards, Tim Tebeau and staff photographer Todd Zawistowski talk fondue. Wonderful idea for a just-the-right sized venue in Traverse City Matt and Victoria!
