Hidden from view is the trailhead behind the old YMCA. Cross the field following the river and it will soon appear. While following the path there are almost continuous views of the Boardman river, along with a couple of creek crossings with woods and meadows. Because this is a flat terrain it quite easy to walk, plus the Fox Den Trail, if you follow it to the right, has a long boardwalk. Following these two trails can lead to the Sabin Dam which is one of the dams to be torn down. It is fun to climb the stairs to get on top the dam site and take in the views. Surprising to me is that right in the middle of the Boardman Valley Trail is a proposed cross-town highway route which would sure change the serenity currently enjoyed. If hesitant in walking these, stop at the Grand Traverse Education Reserve and pick up a map. The remaining 4 trails are also excellent and utilized more than these two trails. Do not forget the bug spray; this seems to be a year of thriving insects.
