Green Elk Rapids Days pays tribute to the environment and the many ways to be “green.”
The annual event highlights creative and educational approaches to a “GreenER” life.
May 10-19: All day long. Trashformations exhibition. Creations from recycled materials on display in yards and storefronts throughout the village. (Image above: “Bookworm”).
May 13, 5-7pm: GreenER Reads and discusses Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior. Happy Hour at Siren Hall. Book discussion led by Terri Reisig.
May 16, 3pm & 7pm: Chasing Ice documentary film. Elk Rapids Cinema. Introductory comments by Dave Barrons, meteorologist and weatherman, retired. Free admission.
May 17, 9am-3pm: Super Recycling Day. Village recycling lot at 321 Bridge Street.
May 17, 10:30am: Story hour. Look About You, with storyteller and magician Ben Whiting. For children of all ages. Elk Rapids location TBA.
May 19, 6pm: Special Village Council program. Dr. Henry Pollack, geophysicist/ climatologist, speaking on “Ice, Water and Climate.” HERTHA building, 205 River Street.
Elk Rapids, on East Grand Traverse Bay and Elk Lake, is about 15 miles northeast of Traverse City on US-31.
