The Traverse City Cooperative Preschool invites area families to a twice-monthly “natural playscape playdate” at their new playground, dubbed Hilly Hollow. The school is located at located at 720 S. Elmwood St. on the grounds of the Grand Traverse Commons. Parking is available in the school’s circle drive off of 11th St. or in the Commons.
TCCP’s Hilly Hollow playdates begin June 25 and run the second and fourth Tuesday of the month through September 10. Playdates are from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., during which a TCCP board or parent member will be present to provide access to restrooms and a water fountain (the school will not be open). Picnic tables are available for those who would like to bring along lunch.
A natural playscape is a landscape designed for play with the purpose of connecting children to nature. Hilly Hollow uses natural materials like plants, pathways and earth mounds to provide a highly creative, interactive play experience. The playground also includes some traditional elements, including swings, a hill slide and tire climb. TCCP’s Hilly Hollow playscape mirrors its indoor learning philosophy that play and imagination-based learning to foster cognitive, emotional and physical development.
