The 21st annual benefit art exhibition and sale for support of the Old Art Building in Leland will begin Friday, July 26, at 5 p.m. when the public gets its first chance to view the work of 90 local participating artists.
The theme for this year’s event is the “W.T. Best Theater” to highlight our new capability to show film, and to celebrate the 91st year of the Old Art Building. The stage is newly equipped with a large screen and video equipment with surround sound audio.
The benefit is held annually to raise operating funds for programs offered throughout the year at the Old Art Building and also to help support and draw attention to the many artists who live either full or part time in Leelanau County. Artists help to underwrite the event by donating 40% of all art sales. Visual art, jewelry, ceramics and sculpture will be featured in the exhibit.
Once again, there will be a People’s Choice Award for the most admired artwork. The winning artist will receive a gift certificate for Martha’s Leelanau Table in Suttons Bay. The exhibit will continue Saturday, July 27 through Wednesday, July 31from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours are noon to 5 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $25 if purchased in advance or $30 at the door and may be purchased at from board members, at Leelanau Books in Leland, or the Painted Bird in Suttons Bay. Tickets can also be charged or reserved by calling the office at 256-2131.
Hearty hors d’oeuvres are included in the ticket price with live jazz by the John Lindenau quartet.
This event is sponsored by Patron Biggs Construction with special thanks to Friends Northwestern Bank and Fifth Third Bank; to Contributors Charles Boesel, Tom and Kathy Angus, the Riverside Inn, Tampico, and to all the businesses that help to underwrite this event.
