Carrara has been famous for centuries for its “white gold” and the masterpieces that originated in its illuminated quarries in the Apuan Alps. Its majesty has seduced countless artists and poets who tried to capture its beauty on page, in painting and by sculpture. Join author Carol Faenzi, whose ancestors came from Carrara, on a fascinating visual tour, following in the footsteps of Dante, Canova, Michelangelo, D’Annunzio and John Singer Sargent.
Carol’s love affair with Italy began when she traveled with her grandmother to their ancestral homeland in Tuscany. There she learned from her grandmother through stories, cooking and listening to Pavarotti. Years later she traveled to Italy again, taking her grandmother’s journals with her and writing down her stories. Carol wrote the award-winning book, The Stonecutter’s Aria and the Etruscans.
Each Lunch & Learn costs $40 and includes a traditional Florentine lunch and a glass of wine. For reservations call the restaurant at 231-994-2400. For more information about Michelle and the class visit bellafortunarestaurant.com/events..
