Downtown Traverse City hosts the Annual Celebration for Young Children. Events take place at the City Opera House (hands on activity tables), Horizon Books and many other shops Downtown.
Horizon Books hosts the popular, Wings of Wonder at 11am in the lower level. The mission of Wings of Wonder is to educate the public about wildlife, conservation, ecology and current environmental issues, with a focus on raptors. The charitable organization works on the rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned raptors with the goal of releasing healthy individuals back into the wild. Always a big hit with young children and adults, Wings of Wonder is increasing the over all knowledge of wildlife rehabilitation, regulations and education methods through fieldwork, networking and research right here in Northern Michigan.
Several stores feature children’s activities including Children’s World, Cold Stone Creamery, Diversions, Morsels Espresso & Edibles and Sweet Pea. Enjoy a coloring contest and live kid’s music at Cherry Republic, coloring at Euro Stop, Play Doh at Harbor Wear, chalk art at Kilwins, and rocket balloons at Toy Harbor. Old Mission Traders offer the little ones an opportunity to build their own trail mix.
The Celebration for Young Children promotes the importance of art at an early age by featuring artwork created by our local youth in stores throughout Downtown. Nearly 100 pieces of art will adorn the storefronts on Saturday, April 27.
The Celebration for Young Children is sponsored by Grand Traverse Association for the Education of Young Children and the over 200 merchants, restaurants and businesses who are members of the Downtown Traverse City Association.
