John F. Kennedy's "missile gap," Saddam Hussein's "weapons of mass destruction," Richard Nixon's invasion of Cambodia and the failure to anticipate the 9/11 attacks: Were these intelligence failures or failures of policymakers to use intelligence?
Dr. Joshua Rovner of the U.S. Naval War College grapples with these issues in a lecture to the IAF in Traverse City. Dr. Rovner is author of the book, Fixing the Facts: National Security and the Politics of Intelligence.
Forums are held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Thursdays in the Dennos Museum Center's Milliken Auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend the 5:15 p.m. reception.
Tickets are $10 at the door; area students and teachers admitted free of charge. Instructors wishing to send an entire class should call 231.995.1700 to arrange for complimentary student tickets.
