Auditions for the musical Les Misérables are scheduled for Sun. May 19 3-5pm for ages 15 and under only; Mon. & Tues. May 20-21 at 7pm.
Les Misérables has a 5-week production run from Oct. 4-Nov. 2. Director is Jeanette Mason with music direction by Joe Rice and vocal direction by Diane Clark. OTP is one of only a few theatres in Michigan to receive rights to perform the musical.
Approximately 40 roles: 18-21 for men, 16-19 for women and 3-5 for youth. Principal roles include: Jean Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Eponine, Cosette, Marius, Enjolras, Gavroche and the Thenardiers. Non-prinipals sing in multiple roles throughout the production.
Those interested in auditioning should bring a prepared accompanied solo, 1-2 minutes in length and sheet music for an accompanist. Be prepared to participate in vocalization exercises to determine range and other vocal characteristics, and in improvisation and exercises that demonstrate stage presences, ability to follow directions, movement, rhythm, flexibility and ability to climb multiple levels.
Cast members must be able to commit to weekly rehearsals through July, expanding to multiple rehearsals per week in Aug. & Sept., in addition to the 5-week performance schedule.
A preliminary rehearsal is available for download at www.oldtownplayhouse.com and auditionees are requested to complete an audition information sheet and a conflict calendar prior to auditions, both available on the website.
Perusal scripts of Les Misérables are available at the OTP Business Office.
