Old Town Playhouse Young Company Offers Winter Classes in Traverse City: Becoming An Actor

The Old Town Playhouse Young Company begins its Winter Session of Classes on Feb. 11. Classes are offered for students ages 5 to 18 in the areas of Acting, Singing, Dance and Improvisation.

BECOMING AN ACTOR: Instructor: Chad Hoover; Thursday's Feb. 14-Mar. 21; Tuition $95.

The job of the actor is to analyze the script for action and then truthfully act out the scene under the imaginary circumstances of the play. This class focuses upon acting technique and the tools an actor uses for the stage; which includes character development, analyzing and preparing for a scene, rote memorization of the script, and playing off/reacting to fellow actors in the scene. At the end of the course, students are broken up into several small groups to present short scenes highlighting these techniques.
