Located in the southern part of Tuscany, the Maremma is not at the top of the tourist destination list, but it should be. The Etruscans and even earlier civilizations built cliff cities and secret passageways thousands of years ago and much remains unchanged by time. Carol will take you on a fascinating trip back to this ancient culture, whose intelligence, architecture and commerce will surprise you. She will also share an intimate view of Italian life on her family’s farm in the heart of the Maremma.
Carol’s love affair with Italy began when she traveled with her grandmother to their ancestral homeland in Tuscany. There she learned from her grandmother through stories, cooking and listening to Pavarotti. Years later she traveled to Italy again, taking her grandmother’s journals with her and writing down her stories. Carol wrote the award-winning book, The Stonecutter’s Aria and the Etruscans.
