Iphone-Blackberry Storm Users

Any Iphone users out there? I'm looking at keeping Verizon (longtime user, great network) and buying a new Blackberry Storm or switching to at&t/iphone (heavy mac user so I REALLY want an Iphone) and wonder if the at&t coverage is ok in TC. I'm in Cedar and Verizon reception is fine and I like the looks of the Storm. Lots of drop outs heading down 115 towards Cadillac but no problems elsewhere with Verizon.

I've been happy with the iPhone - its a great phone, and excellent handheld computer device. The ATT service seems fine to me, and I've had virtually no issues with service and dropped calls. I, too, am a heavy Mac user, and love the device - I swapped from a Blackberry 8830 Worldphone, since my firm switched to ATT and I had the option for the iPhone.

The only issue that I have with the iPhone is the ability to have my business partners and office send me appointments through MS Outlook express - I have to do a hard sync with my office computer, and don't have the ability to invite or accept using the iPhone device. That's the only thing, at present, that hampers my use of the phone, however, I'm taking solice knowing that it's only a programming issue away from a fix that seems to be very known at the moment.

I like it and would recommend it.

Thanks Chris and Scot. Any chance you've used your iphone out as far as the Sugarloaf area? That's where I live and if it won't work out there I'm in trouble. Bad enough I have to use dial-up at home, would hate to have to run to TC to use my phone. :-) I did look at the AT&T coverage map and it looks like the TC area including Cedar is a strong coverage area for them. Must have improved the coverage as last year it looked like it was weak TC.

I don't live in TC but have been up in the area quite a bit with my iphone. In general, it has been solid. Staying with friends west of TC on Cedar Run Road - almost to Lake Ann - I never had serious issues. Based on my usage in my home area (Ann Arbor) the AT&T network has greatly improved the network in the last 12 months. The new 3G version has the plastic back vs. the aluminum back on the first version, which according to the guy at the Apple store was done to improve reception.

I spent some time in the U.P. this summer and the AT&T network outdid the Verizon network in the Eastern UP.

I too am a Mac guy and love the phone - I'd recommend it.

I got an iphone last summer, changing from Alltell and a Razor. I was really hesitant because that combination had worked very well for me in Leelanau County and I just couldn't go back to lots of drop zones, etc. I would say my coverage with ATT&T and an iphone is at least as good as my other combination and possibly a little better. I still have a couple places where I drop, very briefly, one of which is the same spot I dropped with Alltell—by the old Veronica Valley golf course. I spend a lot of time in Leland and I used to drop at Hancock park or in the school and I have pretty good coverage now. I know I've had good coverage down around Bodus Road but not sure about Cedar proper. I don't think I've dropped at all heading downstate but I could be wrong.

I will say, I love the phone. It has been a tremendous asset getting mail (I use Mac's mail program), keeping my calendar and getting on the Internet anywhere, anytime. I can't say enough good things about it. I've had no problems. All good.

For iphone users, this community has an iphone app—http://community.mynorth.com/m/. You get a nice, scaled down list that makes it easy to check in here. Of course, you can get the whole site through the regular address.

Thanks Deb. It sounds like the AT&T network will work fine. Tell my buddy Jill to quit drinking coffee this morning and to get out there and sell some ads today. I used to work with her at the Observer & Eccentric when she lived in sunny Detroit.
I love your magazine and mynorth web site.
