My husband and I would like to build a cordwood masonry sauna building (~10×10, wood fired or electric and steam hot rocks style, not dry) this coming summer. It’s to be built in an area next to our home, not attached. Anyone out there have experience with this or know someone that has built one before? I found plans online from Mother Earth News that look decent. Looking for pointers that are climate specific to this area, such as frost line depth for foundation, thickness of wall (ie. greater than 8″?), creating a living roof system, etc.

We’re not in the serious project design stage yet. Just brainstorming and looking for cool ideas. May end up a completely experimental diy job for us. We live NW of Lake Ann, so if you know someone in our area that builds these please send me their name. Any comments or ideas are welcome!
