My son is just turning three this fall. We love to go for walks in the woods right out our back door. About a half a mile through the woods is a lake we'll be fishing soon, although exploring the woods on the way is he best part of going out. He gets very interested in the bugs that live under fallen trees, and the tent caterpillars crawling up the others. Rabbits and squirrels don't hold much fascination, they are too fast to do anything with anyway. I grew up outside of Detroit where there are a few trees on the street, that's as close to wildlife as I got until I was twelve or so. Life up here is so much more...real life. And our garden is doing great!

Here's this weeks Kids Up North! Paddle the Crystal River in Glen Arbor, surrounded by the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Great outing! Easy river, very shallow with just enough adventure to keep older kids engaged, especially "shooting the tubes." Lunch or dinner at Art's or Boone's. A milk shake at Laker Shakes. We are moving to TC this summer/fall. Would love any help and advice you can give regarding schools, where to live etc. We have a 2-1/2 year old girl and a 7 month old boy.

Glad to be a part of this group. I am a mom of a 14 year old freshman at Elk Rapids High School. My son is simply wonderful! Navigating the teen years is going well so far.....but it's always good to try and be one step ahead (if that is really possible). Soon I'll be looking for advice on college applications and finanical aid.
