Natural Back Yard Habitat

What a delight to find this green group!
My husband and I are entering the process of naturalizing our 2 +1/2 acre back yard. A visit to the Charter Sanctuary in Omena was very informative. We are very lucky to be teaming up with Wayne Kelderhouse, a local landscaper who is excited to be doing a green project. Wayne works at Zimmerman Landscaping. One amazing fact: Prairie grasses have roots that go 10-15 feet deep! We are very excited at the prospect of restoring natural health and beauty to our land. And we are so grateful for the local experts and resources in the area!

Julie, welcome to the group. I too have been struggling to get my yard cleaned out of invasive myrtle. My mom, Janet Dickerson is a great resource for me and you'll find her and my dad, Chuck Dickerson are involved with the Kay Charter and the Bird Sanctuary. In fact when we lived down South, my mom was very involved in prairie restoration. She can give you some pointers on which prairie grasses are appropriate for our zone and which are introduced or invasive.

Welcome, Julie! This sounds so intriguing and is a gift to all of us who love natural Up North. Can you snap photos along the way and share them with us? Thanks!
