We have great videos of hatchlings emerging from a nest the Mom put right next to our front door last summer. Turtles take an average of 80 days to hatch. We marked the date on the calendar, and were lucky enough to have them appear when we had guests. They occupied a good deal of our afternoon. It was great fun to see them speed (this is relative; speeding in the turtle world took about an hour) off towards the lake, take a plunge into the lake, and swim off like pros! We had around 48 turtles from one hatch. I would have posted the video, but I'm not sure how to do that here.

Thanks for the encouragement. We've had turtles lay eggs around the property before, flagged them. but never saw any evidence of hatching. This Mom decided to make her nest in the fresh topsoil and new seed we put down a week earlier. The eggs were laid over Memorial Day weekend. We'll keep you updated.

Do keep us posted! How neat it will be to watch them hatch. One time I got to see turtles hatching at the ocean and making their way to the surf. I wonder where your turtles will try to head. I'd also love to see your video, Ruth. Can you share one of them here?
