Our part of Earth Day today was to clean North Beach in Leland. Gorgeous day. Lots of sunshine and blue water. Very little breeze. And very little trash. The happy story about Earth Day for us was that there were bottle caps and lots of scraps of paper, a one gallon hefty bag, two or three bottles and one tarp out in the rocks. But otherwise, not much.

What a spectacular Northern Michigan weekend! It was quintessential life Up North in summer for the taking.
My 12-year-old daughter actually got the steering wheel away from her three older brothers for the first time and took the boat for her first real spin as captain.

The 4th of July is my husband's favorite holiday of the year. He grew up in the Washington D.C. area and spent all day every 4th of July on the National Mall, a giant celebration that culminated with arguably the most impressive fireworks display in the country. He was hooked.

Marty and Hammie are 3 years old brothers. We got them in Virginia when we were living in Washington DC. They are full of it and love to herd sheep. Just can't seem to find any sheep farms around here though. Thanks for the welcome! Kathy
