"Thanks Deb. Tucker's mother is an English Pointer but we are not sure of his father.  He was rescued from the Illinois Bird Dog Rescue Society. Our last rescue was a pointer and she loves the boat and the lake also."

Earth Day's Surprise in Northern Michigan

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 3:03pm 0 Comments

Our part of Earth Day today was to clean North Beach in Leland. Gorgeous day. Lots of sunshine and blue water. Very little breeze. And very little trash. The happy story about Earth Day for us was that there were bottle caps and lots of scraps of paper, a one gallon hefty bag, two or three bottles and one tarp out in the rocks. But otherwise, not much.

Neal and I were telling the kids about the first Earth Day outing we each had in middle school and discovered that what we both…

Northern Michigan Sunset and Moon Rise, All In One

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 1:07pm 0 Comments

What a spectacular Northern Michigan weekend! It was quintessential life Up North in summer for the taking.

My 12-year-old daughter actually got the steering wheel away from her three older brothers for the first time and took the boat for her first real spin as captain.

Traverse City Holiday Lights Are Up!

Posted on November 10, 2010 at 1:37pm 3 Comments

On a balmy November day, as dawn eases into midmorning over Traverse City, crews from Traverse City Light and Power move tree by tree down Front Street stringing little white lights for the holidays. During winter's long nights, the lights cast a warm glow throughout downtown and create a soulful reminder of why Traverse City is considered one of America's finest winter towns.

4th of July Parades and Fireworks in Northern Michigan Just Around the Corner

Posted on July 1, 2010 at 1:52pm 1 Comment

The 4th of July is my husband's favorite holiday of the year. He grew up in the Washington D.C. area and spent all day every 4th of July on the National Mall, a giant celebration that culminated with arguably the most impressive fireworks display in the country. He was hooked.

Fast forward to the 4th of…

Thanks! I got lucky on that pic! It was taken at Camp Hayo-Went-Ha. Its a YMCA camp on East Torch Lake Drive. Closer to the north end of Torch Lake.

Hi Deb,
Marty and Hammie are 3 years old brothers. We got them in Virginia when we were living in Washington DC. They are full of it and love to herd sheep. Just can't seem to find any sheep farms around here though. Thanks for the welcome! Kathy

I will get that photo decreased in size. All our video is shot in 1080p High Def, so taking stills from the video makes them super high quality and huge in size. Thank you!

Hi Deb
I just received my February Traverse Magazine issue. Thank you for the wonderful Editor's Note that focused on celebrating winter and specifically, Petoskey! As always, your words flow so beautifully and take readers on the trip with you. Thank you

Thank you so much for the welcome and add back. Your column and the wonderful photography are the two things I enjoy most about "Traverse" magazine.

I am trying from two different computers, same result. In Blogs, then My Blog, then Administrative, then edit, still only get the "Please enter image address, Http: Box" option, no browser opportunity. I also checked under Blogs, then Add Blog to see if an entirely new blog would do something different - still same result. I am now at a new IMac and was previously on an older PC. Hmmmm
