Our part of Earth Day today was to clean North Beach in Leland. Gorgeous day. Lots of sunshine and blue water. Very little breeze. And very little trash. The happy story about Earth Day for us was that there were bottle caps and lots of scraps of paper, a one gallon hefty bag, two or three bottles and one tarp out in the rocks. On a balmy November day, as dawn eases into midmorning over Traverse City, crews from Traverse City Light and Power move tree by tree down Front Street stringing little white lights for the holidays. During winter's long nights, the lights cast a warm glow throughout downtown and create a soulful reminder of why Traverse City is considered one of America's finest winter towns.
