TAKE YOUR FAMILY FOR A HIKE ON THE BOARDMAN VALLEY/FOX DEN TRAILS - FIND YOUR PATH

Hidden from view is the trailhead behind the old YMCA.  Cross the field following the river and it will soon appear.  While following the path there are almost continuous views of the Boardman river, along with a couple of creek crossings with woods and meadows.  Because this is a flat terrain it quite easy to walk, plus the Fox Den Trail, if you follow it to the right, has a long boardwalk. Following these two trails can lead to the Sabin Dam which is one of the dams to be torn down.  It is…See More

TRAVERSE CITY LABOR DAY BRIDGE(S) WALK - FIND YOUR PATH

In my quest to bring more of you who live in Grand Traverse County and surrounding counties downtown, two Labor Day’s ago the Traverse City Labor Day Bridge(s) Walk began.  This kind of welcoming family-friendly walk provides the opportunity for all to rediscover the beauty of town by traversing the perimeter, including crossing over four bridges, viewing the Boardman River and the Grand Traverse Bay almost the entire way, and realizing that when the trails are messy and muddy or too buggy, our…See More

HIKING BROWN BRIDGE TRAILS - FIND YOUR PATH

Those of you with families could try this trail as it meanders through the woods and then down steps along a trail that brings the river into focus.  If you hike far enough you could climb back up on the over 200 stairs provided or you could turn around and return via much fewer stairs that you originally came down.  I so want families - especially those of us who live here - to get out and enjoy what the trails have to offer.  But I do caution those with children or even yourselves that might…See More

FIND YOUR PATH - PURPOSEFUL MOVEMENT - Grand Traverse Commons

Purposeful - the latest buzz word, but what a powerful word it can be as it literally means committing ahead of time a planned action such as a body wellness activity.  On Friday I did just that, set the date, time and place to hike.  Arriving at the Grand Traverse Commons with 4 friends it was the intention to walk for 2 hours utilizing hills trying to build up endurance.  After an hour of icy paths these 4 friends decided to call it a day for this type of movement.  I almost did the same, but…See More

FIND YOUR PATH - Maple Bay Natural Area

Families came out on Saturday to watch maple trees being tapped.  Some of these families took to the snow-covered trails that end up on this exclusive beach.  Taking a side trail myself I ended up in knee deep snow when the trail did not quite reach the bay, but the main trail went all the way through.  A newcomer to our area was in awe as I still am of this area, and stated that she wanted to keep this a secret from all others!  I know what she means - another gem being taken care of Grand…See More
