My new BLOG at My Wheels are Turningis not just about bike lanes or street safety. It's not just about crosswalks and sidewalks.

It is about the larger issue of what kind of place we… Continue

Scandinavian boots with a stacked leather heel. Creamy white, not the stark blue white of vinyl skates. They were amazing and expensive. My shoe size hadn't changed in years so it…

Cations and Clay for gardening and bonsai--Master Gardener stuff (cations: say "cat-eye-onz")

Cations and Clay for gardening and bonsai--Master Gardener stuff

Dean Bull

Traverse City, Michigan

Clay: physical properties

Clay is made up of very tiny flakes—how tiny, you ask? Well they measure in ten-thousandths of an inch. The hairs on your head are about .002” thick (two thousandths of an inch). In other words, five hundred of your hairs lying side-by-side would measure one inch. If you took one of those hairs and cut it, you could scatter a… Continue

I'm not much on New Year's resolutions but this year my goal is simple, draw more attention to Michigan as a destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The resorts have really stepped up to the challenge and are offering up more events and deals to attract visitors. This weekend kicks off a large number of events, some of which will continue throughout the season.

A New Year's Tradition Created 1~01~10 for Good Luck

New Year Traditions

It certainly is a magical experience having those chance encounters of "arriving as strangers but leaviing as friends" phenomenon, even after the briefest of stays. It takes a certain amount of trust on both parts, guest and inn keeper to make this a successful experience. But when you are lucky (or skilled… Continue

In Dog Years

DSC_0006 (Small)

On the cusp of the blue moon, as the sweet light faded and the full moon clocked in, we ran dogs.

DSC_0140 (Small)

Luna = lunar = lunacy. I remember my Latin classes.

I assisted Russ in hooking up a team, including the newbies, and… Continue
