Everything old is new again

I just listened to a great new song on the radio only to find out it's been recorded before - several times.

That's how I feel about my search for organic skin care and makeup. I started this journey, and this blog, to help me keep track of what I had tested and to possibly find some satisfactory answers to the question of whether this is even a useful quest (I believe it is). But for the past few posts, I've been feeling guilty that I haven't listed all of my sources for the… Continue

WASHINGTON, April 26 - The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) wants members of the military, foreign service and intelligence communities to know that they may have an additional year to buy a home and claim the home buyer tax credit, which expires for most Americans on April 30.

The law provides qualified service members who served on official extended duty outside of the United States for 90 days or more at any time between Jan. 1, 2009, to April 30, 2010, another year to… Continue

Preserve your community with natural neighborhoods

Enjoy our new short two minute test drive video through natural neighborhoods, aka conservation subdivisions. Less-wide, safer streets and swales instead of curb and gutter reduce stormwater run off pollution.

Large swaths of preserved land filters stormwater, protects wildlife, groundwater, natural areas, and working farmland.

Please share this video with your local planning commission and… Continue

Kindergartener Starting A Pokemon Club

My son Dominik is a Kindergartener in Traverse City and a huge fan of Pokemon. He is starting a Pokemon Club for other young kids like him. The most charming part about this new club is the chain of command in the leadership. Dominik has named himself "President". His little brother David is "Vice President", but Dominik also hands out additional Vice Presidencies to his friends as the mood strikes. There are three Vice Presidents that I'm aware of, so chances are good that if your… Continue

Suttons Bay Michigan is OPEN for the Season

A brisk morning stroll to our local post office, inspired me to look for "signs" of spring along the way in our quaint little village. A drastic overnight change in the weather (from sunny and high 60s yesterday to chilly and windy low 40s today) required a last minute grab for gloves and fleeces before heading out the "kottage" door. None the less, we were able to capture on camera some of the many "signs' (open signs that is) of spring in our village by the bay. Unfortunately...I was unable… Continue

splendid swing

"Mom, you should blog about my swing because it would encourage everyone to make their own swing and that would be splendid."

I came home at dusk last week and spied my daughter on the hill in our backyard. She was sitting on her new swing, idly twisting and rocking gently, not really swinging…

Leelanau Conservancy Helps Diana Kohler Preserve Her Husband's Favorite Spot

There’s a sweet spot at Diana Kohler’s farm where her late husband, Joe, used to spend time. A sandy knoll overlooks a serene wooded swamp where he hunted for years. “When he got older, he liked to take the dog and his pickup truck over there and just sit,” she recalls. “He said, ‘I can’t shoot those pretty things any more.’ He’d read the paper, drink his coffee, and eat the donuts he shouldn’t have been eating. He really loved it… Continue

Home Inspection School To Be Offered by the Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area, Inc.

Many skilled trades professionals would like to expand their repertoire of saleable services. How about opening a sideline Home Inspection Business? There is a constant demand for this service and often people without a thorough understanding of building science and technology are performing the service. While this is not an area requiring a license, it certainly merits consideration for building professionals and associated trades.

This seminar will provide you with information… Continue
