Thoughts On How Our Lakefront Cabin Helped Us to Heal

Big 3-OH! May 31 Code: sky Enter on MyNorth.com/big3oh

Water heals. I learned this the hard way, but also a precious way. Though I’d summered in Leelanau County since I was born, water frontage didn’t come into my life until I was in my late 30’s. As a child, when my family came North we stayed with my grandparents in Glen Arbor, behind the combination Yarn and Soda Shop that was their retirement business.… Continue

An Early Morning Paddle

This has been such a spectacular week. The weather has been summer time perfect. One of our rare pleasures is to rise with the sun while all of Suttons Bay is still quiet and serene....drag our kayaks across an M~22 that lacks any traffic to the bay. To view the early morning sun as the fog is lifting on a crystal clear bay is just breath taking. One of life's truly simple but majestic pleasures. That's why we live in this beautiful village we…

Brunch Recipes in Time for a Northern Michigan Memorial Day Weekend

We kickoff Memorial Day Weekend at my mother's cottage on Glen Lake in Leelanau County. If the weather cooperates it's a weekend of sun, surf, fun and entertaining. I'm planning to make Jim Voltz's recipe for Gazpacho Soup Sunny Shores--it seems fast, easy, delicious and made for beachside cooking.

Leelanau Conservancy Looking For a Used Pickup Truck: Have One to Sell or Donate?

We recently received two exciting grants that will help us with restoration and removal of invasive species. Watch for more details. Of course, we’d love an outright donation, but do have some limited grant funds to purchase a used pickup truck in what we hope will be a great bargain sale. If you are interested in offering a truck for… Continue
