Help for fundraisers: Advice I'll follow raising funds for land conservation

(The sign says "OFFERING 154 ACRES OF PRIME DEVELOPING LAND")

As the founder and volunteer president of LandChoices, I spend too much time using my sales skills to persuade the wrong people to see things my way. On top of my full time job as a publicist, I spend 20-30 volunteer hours a week with LandChoices as I strongly believe in our work to preserve clean water, working farms, wildlife and natural areas using conservation design for subdivisions.

But I spend too much time targeting the wrong people. I've found many of the people I'v been targeting in my fundraising are the wrong audience! I'm trying to convince people when I should be inviting like minded people to join LandChoices as we have the effective solution they have been seeking.

Here is the link to "2009-A Year of Branching Out", a great blog post I discovered yesterday from a comment posted on one of my favorite blogs, Katya's Non-Profit Marketing Blog. Katya is the author of the book "Robin Hood Marketing" (my favorite book!). She has become someone I'm proud to call a friend. She even came up with LandChoices' campagin name, Supersize My Backyard.

I hope the ideas in "2009-A Year of Branching Out" helps those of you raising funds to save our natural resources - I'd recommend you read it. Please let me know if it helps!

Happy New Year!
