Sometimes getting away is the best way to beat the winter blahs-- but no one ever said you actually have to
leave to do that...
My boys are professional snow fort makers. Um, okay, their dad is a professional snowfort maker (he has even figured out how to blow all the snow from our driveway strategically for tower-building usages). I mean, just look at this thing:
It provides hours of entertainment-- from the sneak attacks on mom's car

(notice Max in his best "look out" pose?)
to the slides and seats, snowball storage and stairways they build into these enormous
houses fortresses of ice. And when they clamor inside, flopping wet gloves and boots in the mudroom and chattering up a storm, there is no better way to keep that sense of being somewhere else going like making a fort....on the inside.
Cheeks still flushed red from the biting February air, the boys will set to work gathering pillows and blankets, moving chairs and generally destroying my living room.
I love it.
Just last week, we made pizza, built a fire, and curled into the fort to watch a movie. We slept there (okay, I admit, when the baby got up for the upmteenth time, I made a dash for my bed) and played all morning beneath the bat-filled sky, er, batman sheets.
