For Our Kids - A Strong Foundation Matters

I'm new to this website and excited to join and be part of a Up North Group. I wanted to publicly introduce myself and my causes because I feel they are worthy and I'm not trying to sell anything!

I'm a mom of two young children and also a teacher. I found over the years that our kids and their growth is amazing and when I ponder how they absorb everything, have the energy and enthusiasm it makes me well up with tears. Tears of joy for the most part but when I see funding for children being cut and the 0-5 age group not being supported - I cry. Children do not want their parents to lose their jobs or to eat processed cheese and be hungry. Children want to laugh, play and learn. They need to be supported through their emotional, social and physical development. It is amazing to me that our economy is in a downward spiral and we decide to cut programs that our children need. It's like taking the bottle from the baby. What?

I passionately want to introduce you to the Great Start Parent Coalition. We are moms, dads, grandparents, business owners, teachers, etc. that support programs and services for 0-5. Currently we are discussing the need for more early five programs in our area. We take our concerns to a larger group of individuals that meet bi-monthly. The Great Start Collaborative is a group of Human Services coordinators, companies, schools, agencies, courts, politicians, organizations, etc. that meet and together decide on important 0-5 priorities. The Parent Coalition represents those in the trenches and we tell the group what we think, feel, need and experience. The group is comprised of 20% parents and we help make decisions and vote on what the Collaborative should do. It can be very powerful and it's great to so many of us focusing on 0-5.

Please join me and spread the word for our kids. Go to http://www.greatstartforkids.com to learn more, sign up and see our event calendar. It is free to join and there's multiple ways to get involved.

Everyone can do something but alone we can't do everything.

In addition to being passionate about early childhood I'm a true believer in doing my part for the environment and for our kids to be as non-toxic as possible. I hate BLEACH! I love social networking, blogging and twittering and working with companies to embrace this new medium. Join me and learn more about what I do on the net at Green and Clean Mom.
