Summer Solstice 2009

Loading…

time lapse clips showing a glimpse of the solstice visuals in this lower Michigan region ...

the 'eve of' was collected in Leland, Michigan
the solstice sunrise in Northport
and the sunset near Glen Arbor

a lot went on during the collecting process ...
ie: during the star/sunrise segment (around 1:22 near the center of the frame) you'll see Mars rising, followed by Venus and then a sliver of the moon(1:33 left of center)!

I also saw the ISS flyby, but the sky was too bright for it to record in the timelapse well enough to be seen : (

This is stunning, Ken. The skies are amazing. Stars, cloud movement, changing hues. Wow. And what a cool perk to see the planets. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Makes me miss the stars of northern Michigan even more. Thank God I'll be there in less than a week. Thanks Ken!

Austin Fellows asks: How many photos do you think went into making this? Did you set a camera to do this automatically or did you have to take each one individually? Did you edit out photos or did you use all the photos exactly as they were taken? I really liked this. Thanks!

Hi Austin,

I'm happy you are interested in the movie clip and to learn more about how it was made ...
1) how many photos? ... wow!! about 3000 photos!
2) I set the camera to do it, but had to constantly make sure it was doing as I asked ... sometimes it wasn't : (
3) I did edit the photos, in fact I didn't use a lot of the collection for different reasons.
4) I always edit my photos when I get them out of the camera, as I have all the edit functions in the camera turned off because I don't want them done automatically ... I want that job so I can do it my way.

I hope that helps you understand the project better, good questions!

and I'm glad you liked the video : )

happy summer,

Ken
